Statement on the Recent Status of Aung Sang Syu Ki
1. The Government of Indonesia is deeply
concerned over the decision by the Government of Myanmar to extend
the detainment of Aung Sang Syu Ki.
2. The recent decision has ignored appeals made
by ASEAN member countries as well as the international community for
the release of Aung Sang Syu Ki.
3. The continuing detainment undermines the
‘roadmap to democracy’ claimed by Myanmar which in turn may tarnish
the good standing of ASEAN.
4. The Government of Indonesia reminds Myanmar to
adhere to the ASEAN commitment for the promotion of democracy and
human rights within the ASEAN Community.
