RI, EU discussing ways to combat
terrorism
Indonesia and the European Union are
discussing ways to combat terrorism in a workshop being held here on
Sept. 4-5, an Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman has said.
The workshop, which is supported by
the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNDOC), has as its
theme, "Legal Implementation of the Universal Framework against
Terrorism, Combating Cyber Terrorism and Rehabilitation Programs",
spokesman Desra Percaya said Tuesday.
The workshop is a forum to exchange
experiences and training programs for the implementation of
international law on terrorism, as well as to discuss technical
cooperation and EU assistance, he said.
EU official Joaquim Lemos said the
European Union was happy to help Indonesia fight terrorism and would
provide whatever assistance was necessary.
The European Union, he said, would
also learn from Indonesian experiences in handling terrorism and
implementing rehabilitation programs for terrorists.
Lemos said he would inform relevant
people in the European Union of the results of the workshop. (The
